Remodeling a home in winter can be tempting fate, adds to cost

Q We are going to do a fairly substantial remodel on our San Jose home and are in the middle of finishing the design. We are most likely to start the construction next fall, but we are worried about the weather. Is it really OK to do building during the winter, or does it take longer and cost more? I see blue tarps over construction sites everywhere, but it seems like it would cause problems.

Camphor tree benefits from deep watering, nitrogen fertilizer

Q We have a camphor tree in our front yard that is about 40 years old. We moved into this house six years ago. This camphor tree sheds leaves throughout spring and summer, the way maples and other trees would shed leaves in fall. It still has lots of leaves left, but our lawn is covered with brown leaves two or three days after blowing all the leaves. This happens every year. Is there anything I could do so it would stop shedding leaves?
